A record with boundaries

Local by design.
Yours to control.

Your coding history belongs on your machine.

01 / COLLECTION

You decide what gets recorded.

Recording is off until you agree in the first-run screen. TAPE reads the session files that Claude Code and Codex CLI already write: prompts, agent messages, tool calls, commands and output, file changes, errors, and available usage information. Optional read-only Git observation can identify changes outside an agent’s edit tools.

You can turn off prompt recording, command and tool output, file snapshots, Git observation, or an individual agent. Excluded folders are skipped, including through symlinks. Pausing skips the activity during the pause; it is not imported later.

Optional hooks are installed only when requested. TAPE backs up an agent’s configuration before adding its hook entries.

02 / STORAGE

Stored here. Not sent elsewhere.

The desktop application has no account, server, telemetry, or update check. Recordings are stored in a local SQLite database. Database files, logs, and the recorder’s spool are created with owner-only access where the operating system supports it.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Tape/
Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Tape\
Linux
~/.local/share/Tape/

TAPE does not currently encrypt recordings at rest. Use your operating system’s disk encryption, such as FileVault, BitLocker, or LUKS.

03 / CONTROL

Keep what matters. Remove the rest.

Known secret patterns are redacted before storage. Sensitive file contents, such as environment files and private keys, are excluded. You can add your own redaction patterns. Pattern-based redaction cannot guarantee that every possible secret is recognized.

Choose a retention period of 7, 30, or 90 days, one year, or forever. Delete individual sessions, older sessions, or all recordings. Deleted history is not imported again.

JSON exports and Markdown reports contain recorded content. Review them before sharing; JSON exports may include file snapshots.

04 / THIS WEBSITE

A small website footprint.

This website has no advertising trackers or accounts. It stores your appearance and language preferences locally. Automatic platform suggestions use device information in your browser; they are not sent to TAPE.

Analytics is currently disabled. No Google Analytics script is loaded.

The hosting provider may process connection information such as IP addresses and request logs to serve the site. The applicable provider will depend on where this site is deployed.

Downloads use Cloudflare Turnstile to reduce automated requests. When you choose a download, Cloudflare processes browser and connection information for this security check. Verification is separate from optional analytics, and we do not store the verification token. Files are served by GitHub.

Public support payments are coming soon. Authorized previews use Stripe-hosted sandbox Checkout only; no real money is collected. Stripe handles payment details, and this website never receives card numbers. Cloudflare D1 stores transaction identifiers, USD amounts, statuses and timestamps for reconciliation. An essential temporary cookie protects payment-status access. Short-lived IP hashes limit API abuse; raw IPs are not stored in the ledger.
